Electronic Filing for Record of Employment

You can create a Record of Employment (ROE) and submit it electronically using the Service Canada ROE Web application.

Before you start

If you want to submit your ROEs using the Service Canada ROE Web application, your business must be registered with Service Canada. For information on registering your company, contact Service Canada.

To generate the report

To use ROE Web to submit ROEs:

  1. Prepare the Record of Employment.
  2. Click the ROE Web button. The program checks the employee data and informs you of any errors. If it does not encounter errors, the ROE Web window displays.
  3. In the ROE Processing Method field, specify whether all the ROEs you have just completed are drafts or complete and ready to submit to Service Canada.
    1. Choose Draft to create ROEs that Service Canada treats as drafts.
    2. Choose Submit to create ROEs that Service Canada treats as formal submissions.

Note: All the ROEs within one file are either Draft or Submit. (You cannot create both types within one file.) If you have both draft and non-draft ROEs, you must create two ROE files.

  4. Next to the Local File Path field, select the Browse button and choose a secure location on your system to save the file.
  5. Click Process to continue. If the file is successfully created, a message informs you of the location of the file.

The file name format is YYMMDDNN, where YYMMDD is the current system date, and NN is the file number, which increases by 1 every time an ROE file is created. We recommend that you periodically delete files that are no longer required.

  6. Submit the ROEs on Service Canada’s ROE website.
