Using Expression Builder

The Expression Builder is a tool provided with Sage HRMS Link that enables you to use expressions to:

Convert information when you are creating a template.
Create an expression to determine which records you select when you are importing or exporting information.

Before you start working with the Expression Builder, you should be familiar with Sage HRMS databases as well as with the uses of expressions and functions.

To Open Expression Builder

To access the Expression Builder, click the Expression Builder arrow button or the Criteria button when adding or modifying templates or when importing or exporting ASCII files.

Expression Builder has various drop-down lists, list boxes, and buttons to use when creating an expression. Refer to Using the Expression Builder for detailed information.

To Determine the Databases and Fields Available

If you are working in Expression Builder, all fields in all database files are available for use in an expression.

However, if you are adding an expression on any page other than the Expression Builder (such as, Template Defaults, Add Template Field, Edit Template Field, Import to Sage HRMS, Export from Sage HRMS, New Service Bureau Template, ADP Template Setup pages) the fields which are available for use depend upon the database you selected on that page.

If you are adding an expression on the Template Defaults page, all fields listed are from the database selected on the Template Setup page.
If you are adding an expression on the Add Template Field page, all fields listed are from the database selected in the Select Field From area of the dialog box.
