About the Manual Check Cycle
Although you cannot calculate payroll for an employee for whom a manual check has also been entered, you can enter and process a manual check for an employee with an active timecard, even if the manual check and the timecard have the same pay period end date.
manual checks are processed independently from payroll checks even when you use the Print/Post Checksfunction to print the manual checks, and there are no restrictions on the process.
You cannot choose specific manual checks to process; the system processes all manual checks with a period end date the same as the period end date you enter on the Process Manual Checks window.
Generating Manual Checks
- Each pay period, enter manual checks as necessary. Print the Manual Checks report to verify your data entry.
- Process manual checks. The system records the earning/deduction and tax amounts you entered, computes earnings subject to taxes, and calculates the liability for any employer taxes assigned to the employee.
- Print the Pre-Check Payroll Register to verify the system’s calculations. If you find an error, correct it in Manual Checks and reprocess. Until you post the manual checks, each time you reprocess manual checks the system replaces the results of the previous processing with current processing.
- If you want to print your manual checks, use the Print/Post Checks function both to print them and to post them. When you approve the checks, the system updates payroll records and, optionally, generates transaction batches for posting to the general ledger.
- If you wrote your manual checks before entering them into the system, use the Post Manual Checks function to post them. The system updates payroll records and, optionally, generates transaction batches for posting to the general ledger.
