Message Center

The Message Center displays automatic messages directed to you. Depending on your user role, these may include reminders of important events, notifications about an action you need to take, or verification that an action was taken.

From anywhere in HRMS Employee Self Service, click (the Message Center icon) in the title bar to open this page.

The Message Center may contain the following sections:

  • Personal Requests: Your requests, such as for time off.
  • Notifications: Information about actions taken about your requests, such as approval of time off. (for managers) information about approval requests your direct reports
  • Time Off Requests (managers only): Requests for time off by your direct reports that you need to approve or reject; see Message Center.
  • Reminders (managers only): Information about upcoming events, such as a birthday for your one of your direct reports.

If you have many messages, you can move to another section by either clicking the name of the section in the upper right of the page or scrolling to that section.

Tip: You can also collapse a section by clicking Collapse icon to the left of the section name. To view the messages in the collapsed section, click Expand icon to expand the section.

Reading and managing messages

The Message Center displays the first line of each message in a table. If there are more lines in the message, notice that there are ellipses (...) at the end of the line. Click Expand icon to the left of the line to expand the message. You can click Collapse icon to collapse the message back to one line.

To clear a message from the table:

  1. If a message does not require approval, select the check box at the end of the row—or click the check box above the table to select all of the check boxes.

    Note: If the check box is grayed out, a manager or administrator needs to take action on the item. You can select it only after it has been approved or rejected.

  2. Click the Delete or Archive button to clear the selected messages from the Message Center.

Acting on time off requests

If a time off request requires your approval:

  1. Select the appropriate status (Pending, Approved, Rejected).
  2. If you want to enter a note regarding the request, click (the Note icon) and enter the text of the note.
  3. Click the Apply button to send the approved/rejected data to HRMS Employee Self Service and clear the message from the Message Center.

If you already approved a request, but the employee then modified the request, the system instructs you to override and resend the data to HRMS Employee Self Service.

  1. Select the Override check box.
  2. Change the status to Approved.
  3. Click the Apply button to resend the modified data to HRMS Employee Self Service and clear the message from the Message Center.
