Expressions and functions are tools that provide a sophisticated way to communicate with the program.
In most cases, you identify the task you want to perform by selecting options from the navigation pane. For instance, when you generate a TimeSheet Edit List, you can choose to include only certain employees in the list by using the dialog box that appears when you select the report.
This dialog box provides standard selection criteria in the form of lists and check boxes that allow you to limit the range of the employees that appear on the report. However, in some cases, you must define more specifically which employees you want to include. Check boxes and lists do not always provide the specific selection option you might want. Expressions and functions provide the additional flexibility you need.
